Tips to Properly Clean Your Walk-in Bathtub

A walk-in bathtub is a smart investment in your home. It increases its value, making it more marketable if you decide to sell it in the future. It’s also a good purchase if you plan to live there permanently. It offers convenient access, so you will find it helpful even when you reach old age, especially with its safety features. Moreover, the water jets bring a spa-like experience, making your bath more enjoyable and relaxing.

If you want to enjoy all these benefits for a long time, you must properly take care of your walk-in bath. It will ensure that you would be able to use the bathtub for an extended period, making your investment worthwhile. Here are some tips on how to properly care for your walk-in bathtub.

Clean it after every bath

It may take an extra effort to clean your walk-in bathtub after every use, but you will thank yourself for that. It’s an effective way to care for it and keep it sanitary. It will eliminate most of the dirt, soap suds, limescale, and other substances that may stick on it. Cleaning the tub regularly would prevent a heavy build-up of these substances, thus also making it easier to clean when you do it more frequently. You don’t have to scrub hard if there’s no build-up.

Rinse the tub with warm water to remove residue. Do not use any abrasive material for cleaning, as it could scratch or damage the bathtub. Since these are baths with doors, it would be more convenient to reach every inch and corner without going in again. You could quickly get to its parts through the door. Dry the tub with a soft cloth to prevent water stains.

Perform a more thorough cleaning weekly

Once a week, schedule a more thorough cleaning for your walk-in bathtub. There might still be substances sticking on the bathtub that you were unable to remove on your regular cleaning. Since the daily cleaning only uses warm water, it’s time to use a cleaning solution for your weekly session. First, fill the bath with hot water only up to its seat level. Next, throw in a couple of tablespoons of mild cleaning solution, like a dishwasher or cleaning detergent. Let the jets run for 10 minutes, then drain. Add hot water again up to the seat level, run for another 10 minutes to rise, remove soap, and then drain. Again, dry it with a soft cloth.

Do a deep monthly clean

Performing a weekly cleaning may not be enough if you want to care for your walk-in bathtub properly. It’s best to set a monthly clean that is deeper than your weekly cleaning routine. It will ensure that you meticulously clean all parts, keeping your bathtub in mint condition. Add water to the bath up to seat level as you do with your weekly cleaning. Instead of just putting in dishwasher soap or detergent, this time add half a cup of bleach. Add more water until it reaches above the jets, then run it for 15 minutes. Wait for about five minutes before giving it another 15-minute run. Drain the bath afterwards, fill it with water, and run for 15 minutes to rinse before draining.

There are also walk-in tubs that are self-cleaning. However, you would still want to perform a deep cleaning monthly or weekly to ensure it’s free from suds and other substances.
