These animals will always find a way to get into the house for shelter, food, or water. If you have those three things in the house, surely mouse and rats will find their way to get inside.

Some people even use chemical poison to kill the rodent but that method is not advisable. This is because you might get yourself poisoned or even kill other pets at home due to the use of chemical poison or repellent. Before we jump into the discussion, here are some things that you may need for making the best mouse poison which are disposable gloves, plaster of Paris, and jar lids.

Boric Acid Poison

The first homemade poison is the boric acid poison. For this mouse poison, you will need chicken broth and boric acid. The chicken broth has a flavorful and strong smell that will attract mouse and rats. Surely, it will mask the scent of boric acid as the deadly ingredients. First thing first, before making the homemade poison, you need to put on disposable gloves to prevent irritation on the skin.

Then, pour around 1 cup of boric acid into a bowl and adds chicken broth for around ½ tsp at a time. Stir the mixture well and add more chicken broth until you have a thick paste consistency. The paste should be no longer easy to stir which means it should be very thick. If you happen to add more chicken broth so the paste is too thin, you can just add more boric acid to balance the consistency.

The next step, roll the paste into small balls as big as a marble. Put the balls into small disposable containers or jar and keep it away from children and pets. Place one to two balls of the paste in the areas where rats and mice mostly appear. The flavor of the chicken broth will attract the rats and mouse, but they will eventually die because of the boric acid.

Baking Soda Poison

Another great way to kill mouse and rats is using homemade mouse poison baking soda. Yes, this ingredient is very versatile as you can use baking soda for multiple purposes from cleaning to killing the rodent. To make this mouse poison, you will need flour, sugar, and baking soda. Mix in a bowl 1 cup of sugar, 1 cup of flour, and 1 cup of baking soda. Mix the ingredients well and make sure that the rats will not be able to identify the baking soda.

Baking Soda Poison

The bicarbonate in the baking soda will react in the rat’s stomach acid and produce carbon dioxide. The rats unable to pass gas and the gas causes internal blockage in their stomach.

Plaster of Paris Poison

The plaster of Paris poison is also known as a wonderful homemade remedy to get rid of mouse and rats. When rats eat the plaster of Paris poison, the gypsum will get hard inside their stomach and leave them to die. Plaster of Paris is a kind of dry gypsum which will get thickens or hardens when mixed with liquid.

You will need a ¼ pound of plaster of Paris, ¼ pound of cornmeal and mix the ingredients in a large bowl. Add in 1 to 2 cups of milk into the mixture and knead the dough. Feel free to add in more liquid if the ingredients are still dry. Make small balls and place it in the areas where rats and mouse usually pass by. Check after 6 days to see if the rodents have eaten the balls or not. If the balls get hard but have not been eaten, you can make other balls.

Ammonia Spray

Ammonia is a compound from the combination of nitrogen and hydrogen. The smell of ammonia is similar to the urine smell of rodents’ predator. To use the ammonia as a rat repellent, you will need two spoons of detergent, 2 cups of ammonia bowl, and a quarter glass of water. Mix the ingredients well and put in spray bottle. You can spray the ammonia mixture to the places where mouse and rats frequently appear. The ammonia spray does not kill the rat but it keeps rats and mouse away from the house due to the pungent smell.

Peanut Butter

We all have been taught that mouse love cheese in most movies. The fact is mouse and rats love peanut butter than cheese. The combination of peanut butter and baking soda should be the best homemade mouse poison. You can mix equal amount of peanut butter and baking soda.

Then make balls as the size of a marble. Make sure that you use disposable hand gloves to hide your scent in the poison. And of course, helps you prevent poisoning yourself. Similar to the baking soda and sugar poison, the peanut butter works as the bait and the baking soda works as a rodenticide. This poison is very effective that you can easily find commercial rodenticides also use peanut butter as one of the ingredients.
