Whether you need a boost to your metal health or your physical overall health, the perfect medicine is a garden. It can be a vegetable garden flower garden or simply a lawn that you enjoy spending time in. whatever it is, being outside in your own little piece of nature can make you feel better in more ways than one.

The fresh air, the physical activity and the feeling of accomplishment are all factors in improving your health and well being.

In this article, I will go over several of the benefits that you can enjoy when you spend more time in your garden.

1 – Less stress

Stress has a huge effect on our overall health. It causes cardiac problems, and a much lower immune system so we tend to get sick more often. Anything that can lower your stress is automatically a good thing for your health in general.

Your garden is a great source of relaxation so you can lower your stress levels after a bad day. Even if all that you do is sit in your relaxing products for your backyard, then that is going to have a positive effect on your health.

But, when you are doing projects in your yard or even raising animals there, then you are creating a space where you can destress the natural way.

2 – Builds self esteem

When you take control of the landscaping and even growing plants like flowers or veggies, you build up your confidence and feel good about yourself. The reason is that you had an idea, put in the work and then when everything grows and comes out the way you had envisioned you get a huge sense of satisfaction.

The more often this happens the more you believe in yourself and your talents. And this confidence then bleeds into other areas of your life. You’ll find yourself applying yourself in other areas that you may have felt less than confident in previously.

3 – You eat more fresh produce

The closer you are to the source of your produce, the more vitamins and minerals they have. First, you can let them stay on the plant until they are at their peak unlike when you buy at the supermarket. Those fruit and veggies are picked long before they mature so they can travel long distances.

And, you’re likely to eat more fruit and vegetables when you are growing and harvesting your own. This has a huge contribution to your health as fresh produce nourishes your body.

4 – Physical activity

Getting out in the garden is actually good physical activity. You are moving around, lifting bags of soil and other things like raking so you get in great physical shape. The best part is that it is fun so you are more likely to keep at it.

The more regularly you workout the more the effects compound. Since a garden is something that needs almost daily care, you will see the physical benefits very quickly.
