Water is essential for life. And when you’ll be out camping, you must plan and ensure that you won’t run out of supply.  So, how do you fill fresh water tank outdoors?    Apart from having a filled tank, you should plan for additional water supply. In this case, you will have the freshwater tank refilled when needed.

One of the most common ways to ensure you can get water supply while outdoors, you should bring water containers. They are useful in fetching clean drinking water for the RV’s freshwater tank.  However, you must buy the right containers just as you should when shopping around for a heated water hose for RV. Keep reading to know more about ways on how to refill your freshwater tank.

Using a pump

A water pump can also be useful if camping, boondocking or living off-the-grid, especially in locations where you cannot be connected to a water supply.  Again, you need water containers that you can fill up to refill the tank.  Use a drinking hose to connected the freshwater tank and mobile water containers.  Set the water pump and connect it to your vehicle’s battery using alligator clips. Turn the pump on and start refilling!

Using a faucet

It is a common method that is used by many recreational vehicle owners to refill their freshwater tanks.  So, if you are in a camping ground where to find a refilling area with a water faucet, you can use a hose from this faucet or your freshwater hose to the tank.   Using a faucet is one of the quickest ways of refilling the tank.

You can use a single-valve connection or separate connections designated for faucet refilling or refilling through water containers. However, you must use the right clean drinking water hose, which is designed and constructed for transferring safe drinking water.  Such hose does not result to an aftertaste.  The other way is connecting one end to the source of the water in your location. Fit it to your RV’s potable water supply connection, and then set the valve to keep the water running smoothly.

Usually, you can find an orange-colored pressure regulator on the hose’s one end.   It will help you determine if the water pressure is too high, too low or just enough.  You should avoid too much pressure that will damage your vehicle’s water pipes. Thus, you should ensure of the proper pressure regulator before connecting to a water source and refill your tank for freshwater supply.

Avoid water wastage by monitoring how tank is filling.  There are overflow valves inside the recreational vehicle to avoid overfilling the tank.  Once filled, close the tap and remove the hose. Close the tank’s lid.

Using gravity

If you cannot find a faucet or a water pump, you can also use gravity to refill the freshwater tank.   For this method, you also need containers to fill with the fresh water.  Fill the water container using gravity.

Climb a tree or a level where you can tilt the mobile container’s mouth over the tank opening so that you can start refilling the freshwater tank. Use a ladder if you have one.   When filled, pour the content of the containers into the tank.  If you have a freshwater hose, you can use it instead to fill the tank.   But if you’re using a drinking water hose, you must use a funnel to connect the hose and your jug.  However, the gravity method can be time-consuming and might expose your water to dirt.

How much water can my RV hold?

If you’re thinking about the number of gallons your recreational vehicle can hold, you must determine the different vehicle sizes and the tank sizes specifically designed for each. It is understood that larger RVs have larger capacities.

For instance, a Class B recreational vehicle can accommodate between 18 to 40 gallons of water in its tank. On the other hand, a fifth-wheel trailer or a Class A will have a larger water tank capacity ranging from 50 to 100 gallons.

But then, it is not just the size of the tank you should be conscious about but also the planning ahead to ensure you’re not running out of supply before camping.

Conclusion

Hoping we’re able to shed light on the matter how to refill fresh water tank during camping.  Use any of these methods, whichever applies, and refill the tank easily. For a final tip, don’t just think about refilling but also on the maintenance of your freshwater supplies if you’re not just looking for clean drinking water but also for water to do other things like taking a bath, etc. especially if camping for a week or so.  Nevertheless, refilling your freshwater tank will be easier by planning before camping.  Determine the capacity of your tank, number of people to go with camping, daily water usage and other factors necessary to keep up with your freshwater supply demands.
