Moving home can be a stressful time. But one thing that’s certain to add to this is poor organization. If we can be well ordered and have a plan for getting things done, then it can help you make the task all that easier. Here are five things you shouldn’t leave until the last minute when moving home.

Booking Movers or Hiring a Van

There are two main reasons why booking house movers or a van (if you are doing the moving and lifting yourself) early is the best strategy. Firstly, the sooner you book, especially for vehicle hire, the better deal you can get. Secondly, it’s a matter of availability, if you leave it too late, then you may not be able to secure their services on the day you need, and if everything else is set up for this date, then it can give you a real headache.

Ordering White Goods

If your new home does not come with a fully fitted kitchen, then you are going to have to make sure that you have white goods for your moving in date. These include a fridge, freezer, and a cooker. It’s critical to have these ordered in advance if you are not able to bring them with you as they are not always able to be ordered for next day delivery. Otherwise, a month of eating out or ordering takeaway can be very costly, not to mention unhealthy. This is especially true if you are looking to purchase something specific or specialist, such as induction cooktops.

Moving Boxes

Packing supplies are essential when making a move less stressful. You can not underestimate how many moving boxes are needed, and you don’t want to run out and end up using bin bags! To order in advance will give you a better choice and save you a great deal of money; also you will be sure to obtain the type, strength, and size of boxes you need.

Grocery Orders

One thing that’s often overlooked is that for the first day or two, you will need to eat in your new house, and with how busy unpacking is, it would be nice to have groceries on hand. But finding time may be difficult. These days it’s easy to order online, in advance, and even book a specific timeslot allowing you to concentrate on other things. There’s no need to do a massive shop for the first day, just enough to get through that initial period.

Beds & Other Key Furniture

We’ve talked about getting the movers to bring your furniture on time, but let’s not forget any new furniture that you are ordering. You may be needing this to replace old or worn pieces, or just additional pieces to fill out a larger property if you are upsizing. As we spoke about with white goods, it’s essential to order these early as often there is a wait for these goods as well.
