How To Sleep When You Have Lower Back Pain

sleep-with-back-painSo you wake up every morning with lower back pain, even though you try all kinds of things to help relieve you from these morning pains.

Here are some good steps to take for avoiding lower back pain: when getting into bed sit on the side of the bed, bend your knees and lie down onto your side. When getting out of bed, roll onto your side first, bend your knees and push yourself up with your hands, avoiding bending forward at the waist and swing your legs over the side of the bed. It shouldn’t be that difficult, you just need some time to get used to this routine.

These tips don’t apply when you just had an injury. Resting in your bed might be comforting, but don’t do it for more than two days, since this might actually worsen your back pains. You can also use a body pillow to prevent back pain.

Keep in mind that coffee and alcohol have a large contribution in your back’s discomfort when intaking before going to sleep (yeah, one glass of red wine is fine. Just one, though 🙂 )

Watching TV in your bed is nice and cozy and eating in bed is a royal treat. A Brentwood Originals Brushed Twill Bedrest pillow can work magic to avoid lower back pains, but there are other things to consider as well. For once, it’s a good idea to limit your eating in bed before sleep. Apart from the fact that you’ll regret it in the morning (those pants didn’t just shrink over night 🙂 ), your sleep can be affected by digestive problems.

Apart from the above tips, there are other things to keep in mind.

If you are a side sleeper, you can place a pillow between your knees. This Classic Brands Conforma Memory Foam Pillow is both soft and firm, has no lumps, no flat spots and does a good job reducing your back pain every night. Another solution could be to use a body pillow – here’s our selection of the best body pillows for side sleepers.

When sleeping on your back in order to relieve back pain, you can always place a pillow under your knees. A Shredded Memory Foam Pillow can be put under the knees and, once the pain is gone, you can put it under your head.

If you are among the 16% of stomach sleepers in the US, then you should know by now that lower back pains may occur even among you. The Shredded Memory Foam Pillow with Bamboo Cover by Coop Home Goods cools and comforts you at night so that you wake up back pain free in the morning.

On the other hand, maybe you fuss and turn a lot throughout the entire night so no pillow works for you, since you’d have to move it around all night long. In this case, you can rely on a good, firm matress that works wonders when it comes to lower back pains. For instance, the 12-Inch SureTemp Memory Foam Mattress is made so that no parts of your body take more pressure than others. The pressure is spread evenly on the entire surface, significantly reducing and even eliminating lower pack pains.

If none of the above works, you can always try some relaxation techniques (deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation) or even tell your doctor since it might be more serious than you thought. We can only help you that much!
